Liliums

I am a great fan of Liliums, and am thrilled with the ones that I planted only a couple of weeks ago.
I picked the first one this morning and there are others nearly ready to open.

You can learn about them here and here.

What are they?

I have seen these intriguing plants on many occasions and am fascinated by them, but I don't know what they are called.  These were at Taringa, Queensland, at a unit complex I visited. I just had to take a photo of them.  I don't think the photo does them justice.

If anyone knows, please let me know.  They look like a variety of cactus.

The Hippeastrum in Bloom

The above photo is of one of my Hippeastrum's in flower - September 11th, 2015.

The above photo was taken this week in the Caboolture Historical Village near the Zanow's shed.  There are many about to bloom.

More on the Hippeastrum

Soon to bloom.. ...............

Liliums

I have planted my bulbs.  Hopefully, the plants will grow quickly and I will soon have some bulbs like this!!   This is just the cover of the packet!!!!

Below is one of the bulbs just starting - about 2 inches high at this point.  They are pretty easy to grow!

My Hippeastrum

I have had my Hippeastrums for some years, and sadly they get neglected from time to time, but usually flower for me.

I am thrilled to see some strong buds pushing their way up.

You can see I don't have a garden as such - just some pots.    You can read some very interesting material about them here at Wikipedia. and here.

The First Day of Spring - in Australia

I went for a stroll in the Caboolture Historical Village garden today and found some wonderful flowers in bloom.

I wonder why the orchids are all looking towards to ground. Perhaps they are tree orchids and should have been planted on the side of a tree - and high up.

Wonderful to see on the first day of Spring, September 1st, 2015.
